Sigmund Ginsburg Leadership Forum

The Urban Fellows Alumni Association is saddened by the recent passing of Sigmund (Sig) Ginsburg, known as the father of the New York City Urban Fellows Program.

As a young staffer to Mayor Lindsay,  in 1969 Sig was the architect of this unique professional development opportunity that places 25 recent college graduates in the NYC municipal government each year. For more than 50 years, the NYC Urban Fellows Program has helped shape the public service, law, teaching, nonprofit, and business careers of more than 1000 alumni of the program.

In Sig’s honor, the UFAA is exploring—in conjunction with Sig’s family—the creation of a Sigmund Ginsburg Leadership Forum, an annual or semi-annual gathering for program alumni, supporters, City Officials, and, of course, the current class of Urban Fellows. The purpose of the Forum would be to bring together the Urban Fellows family to discuss critical topics in public leadership and how we instill Sig’s sense of public leadership in our City going forward.
